Furnace inspection

ECOMB developed an ultra compact (45mm diameter) water cooled camera for in-furnace visualisation during the 1990´s. This water cooled camera has been and still is a key tool for ECOMB during our work with furnace inspections in order to understand and optimise various combustion processes before and after installing our patented combustion optimisation tool the Ecotube System (Klick bar).

We are now offering clients the possibility to inspect their boilers and furnaces as a stand alone consultancy product and service and not only in conjunction with the installation of an Ecotube System.

Due to the cameras small outer casing most boiler openings allow us to access the combustion zone. Once inside we can rotate the camera in order to observe different boiler areas.

We have carried out furnace inspections in Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, UK and in the USA etc. Our clients have had boilers burning everything from coal, municipal waste, RDF, bio-fuels etc. We have helped clients see and understand areas of their combustion systems that are otherwise hidden enabling them to improve their combustion process and to plan outages.

All filmed material is recorded digitally recorded and the data is handed over on a CD/DVD.

Please see the examples and short films below to give you an idea of this versatile tool.

• Inspection of combustion conditions in the furnace, i.e. flow patterns, laminar flows and turbulence, recirculation zones or “dead” areas.

• Visualization of secondary air or OFA jets penetration and influence on the combustion process

• Fuel distribution on the grate, particularly the upper sections and the main combustion zone

• Prior to a planned shut-down, during operation check refractory material, wall and super heater tubes, eventual damages from erosion or corrosion

• Carry out inspections when boiler wall tube leakages are suspected and plan maintenance and repairs in order to minimise stoppage time

• Inspection of SNCR lances to check even and uniform flow, mixing etc.

The demand for a tool that can visualize dark boiler sections is rapidly growing. Our newly developed and improved water cooled can now inspect previously non visible boiler volumes. The water cooled camera has been equipped with two powerful LED lights and enables us to inspect totally dark volumes of boilers such as convection passes, flue gas canals, super heaters and economisers
